Kathy Ellis: Art helps make school fun, helps students achieve
After 28 years teaching, I chose to sub. I have been shocked to find the lack of crayons, drawing paper and art supplies in many classrooms. Students tell me they never do art or directed drawing in grades 1 through 6. It is devastating for me when I see students with no materials for creativity. They are left to do worksheets and assessments day after day. It breaks my heart.
Students need inspiration and motivation to achieve success. We are not giving them the opportunity for success. I feel blessed to go into a classroom with enthusiasm, creativity and positive reinforcement to make them feel school is a place to learn and it can be fun.
