Barry Smith: DRAIL wants to help Oakdale woman in need
Re “Looking for help, can’t find any” (Letters, April 13): The Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living (DRAIL) is a non-profit 501C(3) agency serving people with disabilities living in Alpine, Calaveras, Mariposa, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne Counties. DRAIL is dedicated to increasing the independence of individuals with disabilities through resources, advocacy and services.
Though we are a small agency employing just 16 people, our staff prides itself on providing outstanding customer service. It was of great concern to us, therefore, when we read the letter to the editor on April 13 from an elderly, disabled resident of Oakdale reporting that receiving no return call after leaving two voice mail messages with DRAIL. After reading the letter, we researched the agencies phone logs of our Modesto, Fresno, San Andreas, Sonora and Stockton offices but could not find a record of receiving a corresponding message. We have also tried to contact the letter writer directly to no avail.
We urge the letter writer, or anyone who may know her, to contact our Modesto office at (209) 521-7260 so we can assist her in her difficult situation.
Barry Smith, Executive Director, DRAIL
Editor’s note: Several people and agencies have contacted the letter writer with offers of help. She has been provided contact information for DRAIL and other agencies.
