Leonard D. Silva: Those in the military have special risks, regardless of pay

To all our police officers and our firefighters, I want to say I respect and thank you for all you do.

I read about military pay and housing for those of you who think our men and women in military service are making enough. I would ask you to take a little time out of your busy schedules and go to a veteran’s hospital, where our men and women come in from the battle fields to recover (and some never do; many commit suicide). I’m not talking about a clinic, but a hospital where a lot are without legs, arms, the ability to think, walk, feed themselves. This is the risk they take. So do not tell us there is another job that is underpaid more than theirs, or more dangerous.

Leonard D. Silva, Turlock
