Doug Farrow: Bring back the draft to reduce anger and hate

Poverty plagues all races and ethnic groups. Poverty in major cities gives rise to gangs, bad behavior in the streets and anger. But racism gets the blame. We blame racism for most bad behavior, but the looting reenforces its roots in poverty, which ties directly to unemployment.

All the candidates recognize the need for jobs. Fox had a “special” program tying the rise in danger in our national security to the decline in our military. There is a widely known truth, rarely discussed by politicians because it will be risky to their careers. The military takes in boys and turns out men. We need more soldiers and we have a valid use for them on the border and in our National Guard.

Perhaps a reader of this will tweet Trump and recommend activating the draft. It can be instrumental in getting at-risk young men and women off the streets and on a productive track. It also mixes races and ethnicities in a good way, and sheds a great deal of hate and misunderstanding. We should never have ended the draft.
