Bill Wood: So many candidates, and yet none qualified to be president

The campaigns for president are confusing and embarrassing. The promises the candidates are making are best described as wild dreams.

Bernie Sanders calls for income equality, free higher education and health care – promises he cannot deliver. They are tempting to the ever growing “leisure class.”

Hillary rambles on ignoring the FBI’s ongoing probe of her several misconduct. Her statement about the terrible Benghazi massacre, “Does it matter?” seems to sum up her persona. The fix is in for her, legal troubles will fade away.

The Donald would be better off if he gave more thought to what he says. As opposed to “ready, aim, fire,” he seems to be more of a “ready, fire, aim” sort of a guy.

How many disasters would he generate with that philosophy as president? Sen. Ted Cruz comes with the same set of credentials our current president presented: a one-term senator with no track record and the ability to speak eloquently and not much else.

Finally there is John What’s His Name from Ohio; I think he might have been in politics before. In the time-honored tradition of the Republican party, he would probably make a decent president but he is not headline grabbing or inspiring.

Bill Wood, Oakdale

Editor’s note: Hillary Clinton’s response to repeated questioning about the motives for the Benghazi killings was: “We had four dead Americans! Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night and decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make?”
