David Shirk: Inspired to write by ad that detailed good deeds

I was inspired to write after reading Phil Waterford’s full-page ad (Page 3B, March 26). It was less an ad and more a collection of good deeds done and rewarded. I don’t know if the motivation for the page of stories was “pure” or not; sometimes these things are a mixed bag. This I do believe: unconditional love is the highest thing. Unconditional giving is its own reward. It is better to give than to receive. I think giving opens us to receiving. But we may never see a tangible reward for our giving in this life.
