Gary Moore: Stanislaus senior community acts like a big family

We are fortunate to live in an area that cares so much about its senior residents.

I wanted to put together a five-week course at the Modesto Institute for Continued Learning on the MJC campus. I called Jill Erickson at the Area Agency on Aging and she helped me with contacts for senior advocacy programs. As I started contacting these folks, I couldn’t help notice how they all knew and respected each other. It was like one family of advocates for senior issues.

Each graciously and happily gave their time and talents to educate our MICL members. We had 18 speakers representing 14 agencies. Thank you to all the people at CareMore, Modesto Police Department, MOVE, StaRT, Dial-A-Ride, Area Agency on Aging, Paramount Court, In Home Supportive Services, Adult Protective Services, Senior Law Project, Community Hospice, Healthy Aging, HICAP and Project Hope. All representatives were knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects. The most important thing we learned was to call the Senior Information Line at (209) 558-8698 if we have any questions about senior issues.

Gary Moore, Turlock
