Delores Best: What good is Modesto veterans center if it won’t see vets?

After 22 years in the military, my husband retired. He’s also been 110 percent disabled as far as the military doctors are concerned. We have been going to Fresno for appointments for the last 15 years, no less that once a month and sometimes twice. That’s 100 miles each way and a four-hour round trip.

This last week he decided to go to the Modesto Vet center to see if he could have his appointments transferred here. He was told that they were not taking any new patients. All they did was ask for his name. So far no one has called.

I would like to know what has been, or can be, done to get some action here. How well is the military taking care of veterans? By the way, he’s 79 years old and the long trips are getting to be too much for him.
