Jane Cluff: Does Turlock have to boycott market to make this right?

Re “There is integrity in city of Turlock, just too little of it” (Our View, March 20): “Mayor Soiseth implored the parties to work together.” They were! They were working together at the Turlock Certified Farmers Market that community members had spent six years developing and supporting. Peter Cipponeri’s family was selling their produce at a venue the TCFM created!

We just had a family dinner with my three daughters – home on spring break from U.C. Davis and Cal Poly. It was painful to bring them up to speed on the state of Turlock; they were justly disappointed and horrified.

“If the Cipponeris want to make more money, why don’t they just expand their farm stand on Geer Road like the Resendiz family did?” Too much work? Instead, why not just take over another market six years in? We realize the only way we can make this right is to boycott.

What can you do to make this right?

I voted for Gary Soiseth. I was inspired by his education and intellectual approach. I’m gravely disappointed, and so are my kids.
