Terry Easton: You’re right, but don’t forget housing allowances
Re “Shouldn’t get more than military” (Page 3B, March 11)” Though I agree in principle with the author, I’d like to talk about another point of view. When one enters the military one is usually provided room and board, which should be considered part of his or her wage, at least until he marries or decides to live off base. When either of those events occurs, a small “cost of living” stipend is sometimes approved. At least that’s the way it was in the 1940s through the 1960s. Yes, $15 an hour is just way too much for a single person with no financial support responsibilities. Sign me “Retired USAF Master Sergeant Octogenarian.”
