Charles Floyd: CSU could help neighborhoods track their progress
Re “Modesto weighs giving nonprofit $900,000” (Page 1A, March 14): Certainly one would expect several questions to be raised regarding the proposed grant of $900,000 to support a nonprofit. The intentions and goals are impressive, but the means and strategies to accomplish such lofty goals can be challenging. Even more challenging is the task of clearly quantifying the measures of success and adhering to sound methods to measure results.
I heartily support the idea, but with some hesitation. Modesto officials need to be very inquisitive regarding what plan (strategy) is in mind, and what methods will be used to clearly determine progress towards the stated goals.
I strongly suggest the nonprofit, or the city, consider partnering with CSU Stanistlaus researchers to formulate sound methods.
