Maxwell Norton: Don’t ditch daylight savings, make it year-round
Re “Time to ditch daylight saving?” (Page 5A, March 12): Regarding your article on daylight saving time (DST), I agree that it would be better to not change our clocks twice every year. I do recommend that we stay on DST year round. I think a couple states have decided to do that. It is much better to have the extra hour of light in the evening.
More crimes against people occur in the evening than in the morning, so the extra light will make it safer for us and our children. The longer evening will accommodate youth sports and other outdoor activities. Most enjoy being able to get things done in the yard and around the house after work. Psychologically, I don’t mind driving to work in the dark, but I sure don’t like coming home in the dark. Let’s tell our legislators that we want to stay on DST year-round and not change back and forth.
