Vicki Rice: Cleaning up tires also cleans up Modesto

A special thanks to the residents in West Modesto for participating in a waste tire amnesty event sponsored by the city of Modesto and a grant received through CalRecycle on March 5 at the King Kennedy Center. With the help of Carole Collins of the West Modesto King Kennedy Neighborhood Collaborative we were able to get the word out and divert 319 non-usable tires from the waste stream.

A shout out to city employees Tyrone Hairston and Jonathan McClain for their service in the rain, all in an effort to provide a cleaner Modesto. Thanks to a partnership with Waste Recovery West, all the tires will be recycled and stay out of landfills. If you are a Modesto resident, and need help recycling tires, call the solid waste office at 209 577-5495 and we can help.

Vicki Rice, Recycling Coordinator for the City of Modesto
