Stan White: Dangers of cannabis overstated by Bee’s editorial
Re “High time we had a community discussion about marijuana” (Our View, March 6): The Bee’s editorial did not entirely tell the truth about cannabis (marijuana) related to overdoses and deaths among adolescents and children in Colorado. The truth is that cannabis doesn’t cause death and hasn’t killed a single person in over 5,000 years of documented use. That’s safety on a biblical scale.
The unfortunate incidents linked in the editorial include people using cannabis with prescription drugs, alcohol and illicit narcotics along with people that have had prior mental health illnesses. When readers consider nearly $1 billion worth of cannabis products were legally purchased and used last year alone, it is apparent the risks and side effects associated with using the plant are relatively miniscule.
