Katherine Conrotto: Carbon fees could clean air, create jobs

Re “Cutting pollution creates jobs” (Letters, Jan. 13): I agree wholeheartedly with the writer in supporting the carbon fee and dividend program, returning revenue from carbon use back to households.

The 2014 Regional Economic Models, Inc. report concluded that by returning carbon fee revenue back to households, approximately 2.8 million jobs would be added to the economy. Additionally, improved air quality would lead to avoidance of more than 200,000 premature deaths over a 20-year span.

The Citizens Climate Lobby is an advocacy group organized to promote a carbon fee and dividend program nationwide. To learn how to support this effort, attend our local Citizens Climate Lobby meeting, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Church of the Brethren, 2301 Woodland Ave., Modesto. Or call (209) 523-5907.
