Nick King: Did farmers market become too successful?
I just can’t get past the fact that we live in a world where an established event, that is successful, can be taken away on a whim. Maybe that’s the problem, the Turlock Certified Farmers Market has done so well it has become too prosperous and some people noticed and want to make a profit.
I have read many articles, seen many pictures and heard many voices all in support of the non-profit Turlock Certified Farmers Market group being allowed to continue operating the market. I have not heard any support for anybody else. That fact alone should be enough for Mayor Gary Soiseth and the city council to know which way to vote.
Councilmember Steven Nascimento has heard the people since the beginning of this controversy, and during the last meeting I believe councilmember Bill Dehart’s eyes were opened to what the citizens of Turlock want. We can only hope common sense reaches the rest of the council before the final vote on March 15. Government representatives are supposed to represent the people. These people have been passionate and steadfast in their beliefs.
