Bill McCarthy: Deal directly with DMV and save yourself some money
I’ve seen the signs on insurance company offices that they can now process DMV filings, etc. I’ve learned these outsourced processors can charge far more for the service than DMV itself. It is troubling that DMV has little oversight or control over this pricing. An example: To file a vehicle change of ownership form, DMV fees came to under $10. But an insurance agent charged additional fees for this service, totaling $50. An outsource charge of $10 or even $20 would be reasonable, but $40 is absurd.
