Mary Burch: Yes, good can come out of South Mo

Re: “Twins defy the odds, become CHP officers” (Page 1B, March 4): I must say, in all of the years that I have been reading and writing to The Bee, this story of the CHP twins moved me the most. I know where they came from because I lived in south Modesto for many years while growing up.

When I was there it was much different than it was when these two brothers lived there. It was over 50 years ago and we hadn’t heard of the gangs and gangbangers, so I would imagine it was very different for them. I am so proud of them. My father was just a poor farmworker, also. If I could afford it, I would cut their story from the paper and have it laminated and put it on every street corner in South Mo (as we called it back then).

I can’t even imagine how proud their mother and father must be. I hope and pray they will be safe on the streets for a very long time. Big Hugs and kisses to both of them; I send them my heartfelt prayers for safety. Thank you, Bee; you just made my day.
