Elizabeth Claes: Better bike paths in Turlock will make city safer for everyone

Re “Turlock trying to ease path for city’s cyclists, walkers” (Page A-1, Jan. 13): Thank you for reporting on the public meeting for Turlock’s Active Transportation Plan. As you correctly noted, this is an opportunity to address holes in the city’s current biking and walking infrastructure and allow the public a voice in this process.

As a person who rides daily with children in Turlock, I have first-hand knowledge of the dangers and inconveniences bicyclists face as they navigate our town. Now is the time to make changes to our streets for the safety of all users, and this plan is the beginning of that process. I believe that a more complete transportation network, that includes connected infrastructure for those who choose to walk, bike or drive, will benefit everyone and make it safer and better for people of all ages to enjoy our beautiful community.
