Jim Pender: Drivers just don’t care about the laws

War zone: that’s the way people drive on Modesto streets. Briggsmore Avenue’s posted speed limit is 40 in some place, 45 then 50 in others but everybody thinks 60 is OK. There is no posted speed limit Oakdale road from Scenic to Rumble; so is it OK to go as fast as you want?

Yesterday I was in the middle of an intersection and the light turned red, two cars behind me came through, running a red light. People don’t use turn signals most of the time; they park in red zones and handicapped parking. I am handicapped and have to park elsewhere. Sitting at a stoplight putting on lipstick and makeup or combing your hair while holding up traffic is a no-no.

I see a lot of people on cell phones. Look around you, it’s very interesting.

Most drivers follow the laws; it’s just the few who don’t care about what they do. I feel we need more police on the streets to stem what is going on. They are spread very thin for the size of Modesto.
