Gary Soiseth: My challenge to you – become a ‘Centennial Friend’ to the Carnegie Center

Turlock is a great city with a lot to be proud of, from our college campus to our fairgrounds to our downtown. We are just as fortunate to have a storied institution like the Carnegie Arts Center in our own backyard. The unique events they offer to all residents – including world-class art exhibits, free family activities, classes, concerts, lectures, dance, poetry and theater programs – make our city and region a more enriching and exciting place to live. They even host the Sunshine Strummers, a local ukulele group I’ve been known to frequent from time to time!

This year the Carnegie is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the opening of the original building that has historically housed the community’s library, teen center and now our famous arts center.

The Carnegie is a thriving non-profit organization, independent of taxpayer support. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need additional support. The Carnegie has set a goal of bringing in 100 new members under its special “Centennial Friend” membership for $100. I signed up and I’m now challenging 99 others to join me.

Happy 100th Birthday to Turlock’s Carnegie Arts Center – here’s to another 100 years!

Gary Soiseth, Mayor, City of Turlock
