Jim Matthews: Don’t blame dog for doing what he’s supposed to do
Regarding the incident in which the family dog, named Fish, bit the deputy and then the bystander (“Dog that bit deputy likely to be euthanized,” Page 4A. Feb. 18): How is the dog supposed to know that the deputy and the woman were not intruders bent on doing the family harm? The dog intervened in a fashion that would be deemed heroic if this had been a home invasion.
From the dog’s perspective, he was doing his best to protect his dysfunctional family. I hope for a speedy recovery for both the deputy and the woman, and I also hope Fish is evaluated properly by a competent professional before he is summarily executed.
