Des Orsinelli: Modesto council was right to support carbon fee/dividend

I applaud the Feb. 2 passage by the Modesto City Council of the resolution calling on Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, (and all U.S. representatives) to support the carbon Fee and Dividend proposal of the Citizens Climate Lobby. This proposal outlines a revenue-neutral law that places a small, but annually growing fee, on fossil fuels. What is collected is redistributed to households, not spent by the government.

Thank you for caring about our farmers. This might seem like a small step; but it was the right step. And it is deeply fitting here, where climate change threatens our No. 1 industry (agriculture), to stand up and call for change. Good job.

Des Orsinelli, Ripon
