Roland Sarchett: Care at Modesto’s VA clinic saves lives
Re “VA experience lacking” (Letters, Jan. 11): The letter writer had it all wrong. First, it is the Veterans Clinic (not Center) in Modesto. You are not greeted; you walk in, wait until a representative is free, then it’s your turn. The people engrossed in their work are the representatives.
To get hearing aids, you don’t need lab work (which is done in Modesto). To get hearing aids you have to go to the VA hospital in Livermore, have a hearing test, etc. Your hearing aids are made to the specifics of your ear, mailed to Modesto then you are notified when they arrive.
Our clinic is great. I have been going to our clinic for three years. I have a great doctor and he is always on the ball. Two years ago, my best friend Bob had blood work done days before his appointment and his doctor advised him something was wrong. I drove him to the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto. He had cancer, but by the good work of his doctor they were able to remove it. This shows how the VA doctors take care of us vets.
My friend Bob will be 75, I am 68; we are not young. We will continue with the VA.
