Ron Cherrier: Gallo audiences should be more demonstrative
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of seeing the Peking Acrobats perform at the Gallo Center for the Arts. It was a fantastic show but I was somewhat disappointed at the end, not with the performers but the audience. There were many people who gave these performers a well-deserved standing ovation, but there were also many who did not. I have witnessed this at other Gallo Center performances and it still amazes me.
People, it takes very little effort on your part to stand up and give performers a standing ovation. After all, you’re going to be getting up to leave in a few minutes anyway, so why not show them your appreciation. Let these performers know how you really feel – stand up and cheer, make noise and applaud. Artists perform to entertain and they want feedback on how well they have done their jobs.
If we, as a community, give performers the recognition they deserve, during and at the end of performances, they will notice and not forget. They will be more inclined to come back for future shows. The Gallo Center is bringing world-class performers to our community; these artists deserve our best show of appreciation and support.
So the next time you’re at a live performance, no matter where it is, stand up and cheer for the artists. It’s a way to give back the love they just gave you!
