Nannette McKay: Proposed study another example of wasted tax dollars
Re “Will Modesto back high end retailers? City may take a look” (Page 1A, Feb. 12): We are told there is no money in the general fund to pay for public safety or to fix our roads, yet there is $60,000 to pay for a high-priced consultant for another “market study.” This is why I will never vote for a sales tax increase that goes into the general fund where our leaders can spend it however they want. They might turn Coffee Road into another College Avenue.
Hopefully our new mayor will succeed in making the city’s finances more transparent and understandable to the general public. I look forward to attending his proposed budget sessions as a long-time citizen of this community.
