Jake Van Holland: Buy local, and that includes firetrucks
Re “City eyes $5.4 million deal for fire engines and ladder trucks” (Page 1B, Feb. 11): When I read in the newspaper the city is going to replace all the firetrucks over a five-year period and the trucks would be built in another state, I could not believe what I read.
We have a company in town that builds firetrucks; why not give that company the business and keep the money in town? Remember what it says in the Bible, “when you give it will be returned 10 fold.” The people in charge should realize that without work, the employees working here will be on welfare. Now they live in our be beautiful city, pay taxes and spend most of their income in our town. So let’s keep our city healthy and keep all the jobs in town.
It is the duty of officials to keep Modesto a good place to live and work and not send the money to other states just because they can save a couple bucks.
