William Nicholas: Hashem Drive becoming a race track
Why don’t Modesto police use radar to enforce traffic laws on Hashem Drive in northeast Modesto? It seems a lot of drivers use it as their personal race track.
I use the sidewalks on Hashem to walk my dogs; it’s usually an adventure crossing the road.
Without a doubt, cars speed by at way more than the posted 30 mph. It is no exaggeration that cars go faster on the corners. They should be slowed somehow.
Twice there have been signs showing your speed as you pass by; whoever was in charge of placing those signs must have a real sense of humor. The first was within a half block of the stop sign at Hashem and Rumble coming from the north. I am sure that really collected a lot of useful info, being so close to a stop sign. The second was on a straight stretch (gotta give drivers time to see it so they can slow down). The city is missing out on thousands of dollars in fines. I could write 50 speeding tickets a day. Why not put a stop sign or two on Hashem?
