Bill Jaques: Modesto will spend $60K to hear same old suggestions

I’m curious just how much general fund money and taxpayer money we can send down the “Downtown” hole? The Modesto Economic Development person, who comes with wonderful credentials, is proposing a $60K retail study, which goes nicely with the $75K Amgen “sleepover” bill.

I can’t help but think that for the price a of nice lunch, Turlock Mayor Gary Soiseth might help us out. Or, we could go a step beyond and visit with Livermore’s mayor. Let me be bold and predict the suggestions for downtown:

1. Create a safe place so that families feel safe coming downtown.

2. Reduce the “homeless and panhandlers downtown”

3. Bring in family-friendly businesses.

Maybe a bit redundant, but how many times do we need to hear these “feel-good” suggestions?
