Ken Garst: Conservatives should decry plight of impoverished children

Re “Ceres kids removed from filthy apartment” (Page 1A, Feb. 4): The Republicans and their Christian cronies whine constantly about President Obama! Hillary Clinton’s attempts at gun control, government regulations on big business, not bombing enough Muslims, attempts to tax the wealthy, Planned Parenthood, liberals, affordable health care, Common Core school curriculum, drug decriminalization, efforts to control climate change, socialism, gay marriage, transgender bathrooms, birthday lists!, unions, environmentalists, immigrants, Godlessness and so on.

But, when it comes to the worst plague of all, child abuse, those “conservatives” are strangely silent. They don’t seem to understand that not all women capable of reproducing should. It is criminal to bring a child into an environment which is dangerous. No woman should be allowed to reproduce unless she can prove she is psychologically, educationally and financially capable of raising a child. These rules should apply to any “significant others” involved in the child’s life. We must stop paying women to reproduce!
