Don Burkdall: It’s about time we got serious about bullying
Re “Manteca man throwing the book at bullying” (modbee.com, Feb. 4): I read your article on bullying at grade-school levels. I was bullied from first grade for wearing glasses. In my day, the glasses were plastic frames with thick glass lenses. I had the purple divots on my nose to prove it. I could not see or read anything without them and the bullies knew this.
Being cowards, they dug right in. Once my glasses were off, I could not see to fight. I have a vivid memory of a 6th grader holding a knife to my throat in first grade. The bullying affected my whole life in profound ways. I agree the discussion on bullying in elementary schools is necessary and long overdue.
