Tim Keating: Who should get chase-car seats? Marsh, Ridenour

Re “Amgen Tour cyclists to spend night in Modesto” (Page 3A, Feb. 4): Amgen’s Modesto sleepover deal is like the cad who bums $80 bucks off the bookish girl to rent a tux and then asks her cute sister to the prom. Funny, it ain’t.

Modesto’s few rewards for this gesture include two seats in the chase vehicle from Lodi to Tahoe. I hereby condemn to those seats the two men most responsible for this absurdity – outgoing Mayor Garrad Marsh and newly elected Councilmember Doug Ridenour. The former, for a cynical, throwaway vote made hours before his self-anticipated ouster by an ungrateful electorate and the latter for an epic political belly-flop. Enjoy the ride gentlemen.
