Steve Aristotelous Sr.: Powerball desires shows America’s true needs

The recent Powerball lottery which offered a billion-dollar prize was a phenomenon worth reviewing. Millions of Americans bought over $2 billion worth of tickets, standing in line for hours for the opportunity to buy a 292-million-to-1 shot. This showed that millions of Americans, mostly middle class, are basically unhappy with their lives and want change.

When people in line were interviewed, the commentary was illuminating. Instead of the desire for fancy cars, yachts, private jets, mansions, vacations, jewelry, etc., most people said they would use the money to pay off debt, help relatives and friends and take care of the poor and homeless. Maybe this is an explanation why candidates such as Bernie Sanders, an “outsider” is doing well.
