Raymond Ghiotto: The real heroes aren’t athletes, but those who meet responsibilities
Where has our common sense gone in this country? It is a sad day when football, baseball, basketball and hockey players are held up and looked at as some kind of heroes – the same players who think the law does not mean to them what it does to you and me, and who believe they deserve special treatment. These athletes think they can do as they please because of their athletic abilities; they demand unbelievable amounts of money for their talents.
Our real heroes are the men and women who work as police officers and firefighters who protect us and our homes. Utility workers who keep our homes lighted and warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Miners and oil workers who provide the energy we use every day. Men and women who work in grocery stores to provide the food we eat. Men and women who go to work every day for years to support their families and provide what we use every day.
Look around at your neighbors, your family members, your friends and people you see every day; these are the real heroes. Thank God for all of them.
