Rick Hardy: Sheriff’s Office makes it difficult to renew gun permit
Several years ago, I was one of the thousands of Stanislaus County residents who applied for and was awarded a conceal carry gun permit. Thank you, Sheriff Adam Christianson, for being proactive to all of us who desire this service.
It came time to renew my application. I started six months before my current permit was to expire and found it difficult to get a renewal appointment. I had to set my appointment for after my permit expired. As time for my appointment approached, I called the “Acceptable Courses of Training” company I used in the first place. I found that this company has been removed from the list. I had not been given notice of this change and had to start over again. Within 10 days, I used a different acceptable course and was told at the Sheriff’s counter that it could be six months before my permit could be processed. Nothing changed since I was given my permit nearly three years ago.
For citizens renewing their permits, is their a better way to do this before our permits expire? By the way, all of my fees have been paid.
