Gaetana Drake: Where are those lost guns that KCRA reported on?

The Department of Defense has a program whereby they “loan” weapons to local police departments. Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department was loaned two AR-16 rifles. Now those weapons have been lost. And while this is happening in law enforcement departments across the country, my concern is with our Sheriff’s Department. Along with the two lost AR-16s, they have also lost 14 Glock handguns. We have no idea if these weapons are in a deputy’s garage or have been stolen and are in the hands of criminals.

How can we trust a law enforcement department that can’t keep track of its weapons. Law enforcement should always be held to a higher standard. They have authority over all of us, but are incapable of keeping track of their weapons. Sheriff Christianson was on KCRA (Ch. 3) discussing these lost weapons. Apparently it’s just a “paperwork/inventory error,” he says. Do you believe that ? I certainly don’t.
