Jill Anderson: If Riverbank doesn’t cut water use, fines will ensue

Re “Riverbank's rules will kill plants” (Letters, Dec. 26): In order for Riverbank to meet the state’s Water Conservation Order of 32 percent, the city has had to implement severe restrictions on water use. Even with recent rains, additional cutbacks on water use are needed and everyone will need to do their part in order to meet the 32 percent reduction ordered by the state.

If water use continues to exceed the amount allowed by the state, the city could face significant fines.

With this in mind, we needed to look at options that would produce the best water savings quickly. As a result, the use of sprinklers has been prohibited and watering is limited to one day a week until May, 2016. In the meantime, the city recognizes water-use restrictions can be an inconvenience and appreciates the effort being made by many in the community to conserve water.
