Bruce R. Frohman: Fear not a basis for making sound decisions

Life cannot be enjoyed by someone living in fear. Fear turns to anger and frustration when someone feels powerless to eliminate the source of their fear.

Letters appearing in The Bee in recent years demonstrate a growing fear among readers. Many writers lash out concerning subjects they know little about. Their diatribes appear angry, uncivil, fearful and irrational. Letters about gun rights and dropping nuclear bombs lead the list.

The main sources of fear are the terrorists, who are good at what they do, and politicians, who are not good at what they should do.

Individually, we can’t do much about terrorists other than “see something, say something.” But we can do something about politicians who use scare tactics to obtain our votes: don’t vote for them.

Those of us who do not live in fear need to find a way to assure those who are fearful that everything will be all right as long as we stick together.
