Terry Easton: Drag racing deaths were no ‘accident’
Re “Two killed in crash near Modesto mall” (Page 1A, Dec. 22)
It seems to me that several years ago newswriters ceased using the term “accident” to describe vehicular crashes; and rightly so. Yet you used this word in the article. In my mind, and the minds of many others I spoke with, speeding is no accident; racing is no accident; reckless driving is no accident. Dictionary definitions for “accident” include reference to “negligence,” but in the case of vehicular occurrences, “negligent” is just not a strong-enough word.
