Steve Matthews: Muslims should not fear standing up and denouncing radicals
Should you be of the Muslim faith and fear repercussions regarding your religion due to the acts of radical Muslims, I suggest that you stand up, both individually and in groups, and denounce radical Islam. Provide your names and photos so you can be seen. Should you elect to remain quiet and invisible, your ability to be trusted might be questioned. As an American who cherishes freedom, let your voice be heard.
Steve Matthews, Modesto
Editor’s note: Many Muslim groups and individuals have spoken against hatred of all types, including a group in Dearborn, Mich., this weekend and officials in Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Indonesia, France and elsewhere. The hashtag #terrorismhasnoreligion arose among Muslims posting support for those harmed in the French attacks.
