A. P. Kiehl: Trying to rid world of religion would create chaos
Re “Isolate contagion of extreme beliefs” (Letters, Dec. 1): The letter writer calls for all nations to outlaw Christianity and Islam and labels both faiths as “terrorist organizations.” The real terrorist here is the writer, because to try and abolish the world’s two largest religions cannot be done without utter catastrophe. What the writer is doing is calling on every world government to violently persecute more than 4 billion religious individuals. Since all countries have Christians and all but about 30 have Muslims, any such governmental attempt to suppress these two religions will lead to severe bloodshed in every nation around the world because a majority of Christians and Muslims in most (if not all) countries are willing to fight for their respective faiths. Such needless violence the writer is calling for makes him the real terrorist here.
A. P. Kiehl, Turlock
Editor’s note: The writer of “Isolate contagion of extreme beliefs” referred specifically to the “terrorist branch” of both religions.
