Julio Acosta: Did Jerry Brown misuse $17 million from feds?
I have heard that the Brown administration has used $17 million, given in federal grants, for natural restoration to instead promote and plan the governor’s vision of a delta tunnel – which I highly oppose. If you could please bring attention to this matter, if it is true, your local community would thank you.
Julio Acosta, Modesto
Editor’s note: The most recent budget, passed this week by Congress and awaiting President Obama’s signature, contains roughly $37 million to help plan construction of the tunnels. Earlier this year, the state Department of Water Resources was granted $17.9 million from the U.S. Department of the Interior to restore environmental degradation arising from federal Central Valley Project dams (including New Melones and San Luis in this area). Tunnel opponents contend the money was, instead, used to promote and plan the tunnels.
