Sharon VanZwaluwenburg: Bee should do more coverage on Delta issues

I am amazed by the lack of coverage about the many things going on in our nearby Delta. I don’t feel the people of Modesto are aware or concerned regarding Southern California’s plan to buy up islands in the Delta in an attempt to control our water. This may not be right in your water district, but it is next door. This is constantly in the Stockton Record as are the tunnels. These two matters are of major importance to us as a community, not just as a little local news story. This is on the front page of the Record and is an issue that should be covered as a major issue in our area on a very regular basis.

Wake up Modesto Bee, and the readers of The Modesto Bee, and let your voices be heard in this urgent matter!

Sharon VanZwaluwenburg, Manteca

Editor’s note: The Bee has provided significant coverage of both the tunnels and Metropolitan Water District’s plan to buy five Delta islands to create in-Delta reservoirs. The most recent news story appeared on Nov. 22, preceded by a story on Nov. 21 and an editorial that addressed both the Delta Island plan and Dean Cortopassi’s efforts against the twin tunnels on Nov. 6.
