Kristopher Pierce: As Bible points out, love is the answer
How are we, as followers of Christ, to live in a pagan culture that kills unborn children and that attempts to redefine marriage and gender? Like exiled Israel in the Old Testament, we are called to love, pray for and seek the good of our neighbors – even when they find our biblical convictions strange, uninformed and bigoted.
We are citizens of “a kingdom that cannot be shaken” (Hebrews 12:28), so we are never to put our hope in politics. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take seriously our responsibility as earthly citizens to care about the good of our neighbors. In fact, our love for our King, and our eternal perspective, should be what drives our efforts to be good citizens of the countries where God has placed us.
When we are known more for our love of God and our neighbors than we are for our reactionary and unthoughtful responses to the depravity we see in our culture, we might not receive the endorsement of the political and cultural elites but we will glorify our Father in heaven and point many to the Savior.
