Ken Garst: Isolate the contagion of extreme religion

It seems as though I have written this letter a thousand times. Before I joined the 82nd Airborne, I was stationed in Colorado Springs. It is a beautiful city with excellent shopping and other activities. Unfortunately, there is a network of insanity plaguing this city and every other city in America. President Obama is no more guilty of creating the terrorist brand of Islam known as ISIS as he is of creating the terrorist branch of Christianity called “evangelical Christianity.”

I am certain that most Christians and Muslims realize that their Holy books were written in a different time and for different reasons. These documents should be studied as historical documents, not as blueprints for behavior in the 21st century.

The nations of the world should outlaw these two terrorist organizations and any others that crop up.

Of course, it is not practical to eradicate the “believers” nor desirable. But they must, for the sake of the rational believers and non-believers, be isolated and prevented from gaining power over those of us who are not interested in their doctrines. These groups should be isolated as much as possible in a humane manner.
