Deeanne Wilkinson: Fast food workers deserve your respect
Re “$15 for flipping burgers? Unfair” (Letters, Nov. 16): You give them a break!
Fast food employment doesn’t require a Master’s degree, but it does require one to “master multi-tasking skills, ability to use positive and courteous curstomer service skills, quick and thorough decision-making skills and the art of respect.”
Did the restaurant manager really say the circle in the middle of the wrapper “is so the employee will be able to put the hamburger in the middle”? It’s there to guide the employee to center it perfectly so the hamburger won’t fall out of the wrapper as the customer grabs, in or out of a bag. If it slips, the customer would be angry.
It is very insulting to say “get an education, stop dropping out of school, learn a trade.” Possibly this is what they are doing by supporting themselves or maybe they’re contributing to a household. Fast food employees go to and leave from work in the rain, heat and dark of night. As far as I recall, their hair is cut, pants pulled up and they’re working hard. These demonstrate that they have a “work ethic.”
I hope your next hamburger is properly placed in that circle!
