Ashley August: MID must not be allowed to penalize solar cell owners
As a proud solar owner and a customer of Modesto Irrigation District, I am furious at yet another attempt by the utilities to punish those of us who are trying to make the right choice for our pocketbooks and the environment. MID is once again trying to pass a rate change to charge us more, this time by increasing the monthly fixed charge to $20. There’s no way to avoid this fixed charge, no matter how much energy my system generates or how efficiently I use energy in my home.
MID is out of step with the needs of its residential customers, and seem to forget that, as ratepayers, we are all partial owners of this utility. This new rate should not and cannot pass.
