Alfa Broderick: Peace/Life Center turns 45, and going strong
You probably have seen the free newspaper, Connections, at different places around the area. Some people may be curious and even pick up a copy. What some people might not know is that Connections is a monthly newspaper published by the local Peace/Life Center, a group who, for the last 45 years, have been working hard but quietly for the good of our citizens, city and country. They have marched untiringly against the senseless war in Iraq; advocated against injustice; helped the homeless and other civic causes. They are responsible for the Peace Essay Contest, Peaceful Pines Retreat, annual John McCutcheon concert, spring pancake breakfast, Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration, as well as monthly vigils at the “Four Corners” to awaken awareness about common problems like homelessness, immigration reform, Middle East peace, etc.
On Nov. 6, my husband, our local son and I had the honor to participate in the well-attended 45th anniversary celebration of the Peace/Life Center, at a member’s home. There was recognition to the “elders,” my husband and I included, for our participation in this wonderful organization since its inception. It was an enjoyable gathering, full of pleasant camaraderie, awesome food and great fun.
Thank you, Peace/Life Center people, for all your hard work throughout the last 45 years; may God continue blessing your efforts.
