Galen Carroll: What was he doing in that parked car? Medicating

Re “Police overreacted to my parked car” (Page 3B, Nov. 6): In a recent letter to the editor, the writer left out some pertinent information. Though the Modesto Police Department was not involved, the writer filed a complaint with our department.

In his letter, he failed to mention he was parked preparing to medicate himself with medical marijuana. The best way not to get stopped and potentially arrested, including have a car impounded for driving under the influence by the “overreacting police,” would be not to smoke marijuana in your car before driving.

I would ask members of the public to be responsible and help us keep everyone safe by not using medication, drugs (even for medical purposes) or alcohol before driving. If you must smoke marijuana for medical purposes, do it in the privacy of your home.

Galen Carroll, Modesto Police Chief
