Marilyn C. Fuzie: Modesto should send homeless back to San Jose

Re “Bus stops here with Dave Lopez” (Page 1B, Nov. 3): Jeff Jardine’s column about our homeless situation says we should accept any homeless people who either come to – or who are sent to – Modesto since most of Modesto’s population came here from somewhere else.

I agree that many of us did come from elsewhere. However, most of us who came here came for employment and/or to better our living conditions. We became productive citizens and raised our children to be productive citizens. I am involved with several programs to help the homeless, so I am not insensitive to their plight. Thanks to the generosity of the people of Modesto, there are many such programs.

San Jose should be caring for their own homeless population and not sending them here or anywhere else. They are a larger community and should have more funds for programs.

So, I agree with Dave Lopez’s idea that we should send San Jose’s population back to them. Let Modesto take care of its own.
